Charles Annenberg Weingarten is the Vice President and Director of the Annenberg Foundation and founder of explore.org, a philanthropic multi-media organization. He holds a Master’s degree from USC’s School of Cinema-Television and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University.

Weingarten started explore.org with a library of films and photography from around the world and now features over 250 documentary films, thousands of photographs, and the original Emmy Award-winning opera Fallujah: Art, Healing, and PTSD. After the economic crisis of 2008 Weingarten put all of his energy into traveling the United States with his golden retriever Lucky, bringing to life stories of the country’s unsung heroes through a series of documentaries. Early Life

Charles Annenberg Weingarten is the son of Wallis Annenberg and Seth Weingarten. Wallis Annenberg is the chairman and president of the Annenberg Foundation. She is also the only surviving child of the late billionaire media tycoon Walter Annenberg.

Charles Annenberg Weingarten was born in Roswell, New Mexico where his father was working at Walker Air Force base as a neurosurgeon. His parents divorced in 1975. He worked for Triangle Publications, which was owned by his grandfather until the company was sold to Rupert Murdoch in 1988 for $3 billion. He worked as a waiter at Ivy at the Shore in Santa Monica for two months. After that he started a T-shirt company, then a yoga clothing company, and began documentary filmmaking.

Ownership and Board of Directors

Walter H. Annenberg headed the Annenberg Foundation until his death in 2002. Leonore Annenberg, his wife, ran it until her death in March 2009. Since then, the foundation's trusteeship has been led by Wallis Annenberg and three of her children: Lauren Bon, Gregory Annenberg Weingarten, and Charles Annenberg Weingarten.[4
