Rani Sada Kaur (Punjabi: ਸਦਾ ਕੌਰ; c. 1762 – 1832) was a Sikh leader. She served as the Chief of the Kanhaiya Misl from 1789 to 1821, following the death of her husband Gurbaksh Singh Kanhaiya, the heir to Jai Singh Kanhaiya, the leader of the Kanhaiya Misl, and she is sometimes referred to as Sardarni Sada Kaur.[1]

Described as intelligent and ambitious, Rani Sada Kaur was instrumental in guiding a young Ranjit Singh to found the Sikh Empire. She played an important role in the rise and consolidation of Sikh power in Punjab.[2]

Early life and marriage

Sada Kaur was born into a DhaliwalJat Sikh family in 1762 to Sardar Daswandha Singh Dhaliwal.[3] She was married to the 7-year-old Gurbaksh Singh, the eldest son and heir of Jai Singh, the head of the SandhuJat ruler of Kanhaiya Misl. They were married in 1768 and had one child together, a daughter named Mehtab Kaur, who was born in 1782.[4][5]

Sardarni Bibi Susheel Kaur also referred to as Mata Susheel Kaur (died 1716) was the wife of Sikh GeneralBanda Singh Bahadur, who established the first Sikh state and the mother of his son, Ajai Singh.[2] She was the only daughter of MaharajaUdai Singh of Chamba.

Susheel Kaur was born as Rajkumari Susheel Kanwar to MaharajaUdai Singh.[1] Like the princesses of her time she was trained in sword fighting, equestrianism, as well as arts and craft; she was skilled in embroidery handicraft of the Chamba Rumal.[3] Her known physical and personal attributes describe her as being extremely beautiful, graceful and delicate.[4]Max Arthur Macauliffe describes her as a "Goddess of Love".[5][4]
