Jonathan Neal Pruitt is a former academic researcher.^[1] He was an Associate Professor of behavioral ecology and Canada 150 Research Chair in Biological Dystopias at McMaster University.^[2]^[3] Pruitt's research focused primarily on animal personalities and the social behavior of spiders and other organisms.

In early 2020, some of Pruitt's research was identified as having data irregularities, and Pruitt was alleged to have manipulated data.^[4] An investigation by McMaster found that he had "engaged in fabrication and falsification.”^[5] In 2021 it was reported that Pruitt "had a dozen papers retracted following allegations of data fraud" and that his doctoral dissertation had also been withdrawn. He resigned from McMaster in 2022 after receiving confidential settlement terms.

John Henry Pruitt (October 4, 1896 – October 4, 1918) was a United States Marine during World War I and is one of only 19 people who have received two Medals of Honor.

Biography

John Henry Pruitt was born on October 4, 1896, in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He entered military service from Phoenix, Arizona, in May 1917.

As a corporal in the Marine Corps, Pruitt attacked and captured two enemy machine guns, and later captured forty of the enemy. The U.S. Army and later the U.S. Navy awarded him the Medal of Honor for his bravery on October 3, 1918, at the Battle of Blanc Mont Ridge, France. The next day, his 22nd birthday, he was killed by shell-fire.

His remains were returned to the United States and buried at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia.^[1]

John was born on the 4th of October, 1896 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, to George and Melissa and grew up with two sisters and one brother. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in May of 1917 and was deployed to France with the 6th Marine Regiment and he participated in the Battles of Belleau Wood, Chateau-Thierry, and Blanc Mont Ridge. He had earned a Silver Star for helping capture an enemy machine gun on the 15th of September, another Silver Star for his actions between the 1st and 10th of October, and a third Silver Star for the same time period. It was his actions on the 3rd of October, the day before his 22nd birthday, that would earn him both the Army and Navy Medals of Honor. The citations read:
