Béatrice Mireille Martin (French pronunciation:[beatʁismaʁtɛ̃]; born 22 September 1989), better known by her stage name Cœur de pirate ([kœʁdəpiʁat]; French for Pirate's Heart), is a Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist. A francophone from Montreal, she sings mostly in French and has been credited in Montreal Mirror with "bringing la chanson française to a whole new generation of Quebec youth."[2]

Career

Early beginnings

Born in the province of Quebec, Martin started playing the piano when she was only three years old.[3] She entered the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal at age nine and studied there for five years.[3][4]

She is the niece of actor Alexis Martin.[5]

Harpsichordist Béatrice Martin was born in Annecy, France, and has been a faculty member since 2015. She attended Geneva Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory. Martin created and directed the harpsichord class in the Escola Superior de Música of Catalunya in Barcelona (2001–2013). She was a jury member for the International Harpsichord Competition of Bruges in 2011 and 2015. Festivals where she has taught include the Festival of Ambronay, La Roque d’Anthéron, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Festival Couperin, Bach in Combrailles, Festival of Lanvellec, Printemps Baroque du Sablon, the festivals of Utrecht, the MA Festival of Bruges, Daroca, Girona, Malta, Tallinn, ‘Cycle clavecinistes Français’ in Mexico, he London Festival of Baroque Music, Folles Journées of Nantes, and the Lisbon Festival. She has played recitals at Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra Comique, and the Cité de la Musique in Paris. Ensembles she has played with include Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert Spirituel, Ricercar, Il Seminario Musical, and Les Arts Florissants. Martin is co-founder, with Patrick Cohë

Béatrice Martin (born 1973) is a French harpsichordist.

Life

Born in Annecy, Martin began playing the harpsichord at the age of 6 years old in parallel with dancing.[1] She studied at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève then Conservatoire de Paris.[2] She has been a regular harpsichordist with Les Arts Florissants under William Christie, for whom she acted as principal assistant.

In 2000, she founded the ensemble "Les Folies françoises"[3] with the violinist and conductorPatrick Cohën-Akenine.

She is a professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona and has been a guest professor at the Juilliard School in New York since 2015.

She has recorded about ten CDs, including recordings of Bach's Sonatas for violin and harpsichord, BWV 1014–1019, with Patrick Cohën-Akenine. Her album Bach: concertos pour clavecin (BWV 1052, 1053, 1055, 1056), with "Les Folies françoises", was awarded a Diapason d'or in 2016.[4]
