Linda was born in Greenwich , Ct. and moved with her family as a child to Japan, where she was raised. There she trained and worked as an actress from the age of 11 under the awning of Toho Productions and at 15 moved to the US by way of the UK and studies there with LAMDA.
She’s known widely from her running television roles as Pam’s Mom, Helene Beasley on The Office; Ashley Pfister, Fonzie’s fiancee on Happy Days; Andy Griffith’s daughter, Charlene Matlock on Matlock; with recurring roles on Homeland, TrueBlood and General Hospital.
She has made over 45 made for TV movies, happily two stints on Broadway, three off-Broadway and has performed in over 50 regional theatres. Performances in the theatre internationally, include 22 venues with her partner Patrick Duffy on tour throughout the UK in 2022. She has recorded five solo CD’s and delights to do concerts as often as possible. Purl is the proud Mother of one son, Lucius Cary.

Linda Purl (born September 2, 1955) is an American actress. She is known for her roles as Ashley Pfister (Fonzie's girlfriend) on Happy Days (she originally played Gloria as Richie’s date in season 2 episode 6), Sheila Munroe in the 1982 horror film Visiting Hours, Pam Beesly's mother Helene in The Office, and Ben Matlock's daughter Charlene Matlock for the first season of the television series Matlock.
Early life
Purl was born on September 2, 1955, in Greenwich, Connecticut,[2] to chemical-industry executive Raymond Charles Arthur Purl and Marshelline "Marshie" Purl.[2][3][4] She has a sister, Mara.[2][3] The girls' grandmother, Beatrice Saville, was a founder of the Actors' Equity Association.[5] At age five,[5] Purl moved with her family to Japan, where her father worked for Nippon Unicar.[3] She spent her childhood there, and trained in acting at the Toho Geino Academy.[6] While at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo, Pur
