Investment manager, author, photographer, theatrical producer, former intelligence officer and diplomat Anthony Marshall also served as an American Ambassador over an eight-year period (1969-1977) to the Malagasy Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, and as non-resident ambassador to the Seychelles, as well as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environmental Agency in Nairobi, Kenya and as Special Ambassador (head of the U. S. delegation) to the Kingdom of Lesotho’s Tenth Anniversary of Independence (1976).  Mr. Marshall’s prior service with the Department of State included an assignment as a Vice Consul in the Consulate General in Istanbul, Turkey (1958-59).

Mr. Marshall had extensive business experience in Africa, which included the ownership and management of two Nigerian companies: NIDOCO and African Research and Development Company, a manufacturers’ representative of American, British, Belgian and French companies (1959-69).

Anthony Marshall, whose aristocratic life as philanthropist Brooke Astor’s only child unraveled as he was convicted of raiding her fortune, has died, his lawyer said Monday. Marshall was 90.

Marshall, a decorated World War II veteran who later became a diplomat and Broadway producer, died Sunday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, attorney Kenneth Warner said. Warner didn’t specify the cause of death, but Marshall had heart and other health problems for years.

Marshall was convicted in October 2009 of taking advantage of his aged mother’s slipping mind to loot her millions, and he was sentenced to one to three years in prison. Appeals delayed his incarceration for more than three years, but Marshall ultimately went to prison in June 2013.

He was granted medical parole two months later because of debilitating illness, with a parole board asking whether he had regrets about the events leading to his imprisonment.

Anthony Wallace Masciarelli (March 29, 1906 – July 12, 1999) was an American television producer.[2][3] He was the father of actor-director Garry Marshall, actress-director Penny Marshall, and television producer Ronny Hallin.

Early life

Anthony "Tony" Masciarelli was of Italian descent,[1] his family having come from San Martino sulla Marrucina, Chieti, Abruzzo. He changed his last name to Marshall before his son Garry was born.[4] Marshall married Marjorie Irene (nee Ward; 1908–1983), the owner and teacher in a tap dance school.[5]

Career

Marshall began his career as a director of manufacturing films[5] and was a producer on his son Garry Marshall's television series, The Odd Couple. Later in his career, he produced for other television sitcoms, including, Laverne & Shirley, Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, Who's Watching the Kids? and The New Odd Couple. Marshall was also nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards in the category Outs
