Czech Republic : PoliticsFormerly Secretary of State under President Clinton, Madeline Albright was born Marie Jana Korbel. She fled the Nazis with her family during WWII; first to the U.K., then to the U.S. in 1948. She did not learn of her Jewish roots, nor that her grandparents died in German concentration camps, until she was in office in the 1990s.
