Hyderabad (24.10.2024): The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed A R Anuradha (Retd IPS: 1987: AP) as the new chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC). Anuradha, who has a distinguished career in various roles within the state, is recognized as a pioneer, being the first woman IPS officer to lead the Intelligence Department in Andhra Pradesh. Her extensive experience includes significant positions such as Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement, as well as serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) and Inspector General (IG) across multiple districts.

Ms Anuradha Shankar (IPS:1990:MP) has been debarred from the central deputation for five years for not taking the charge as Cheif Vigilance Officer, Hindustan Petrolum Corporation Limited. Presently she is serving in cadre state (MP) as Inspector Genral of Police . Ms Anuradha Shankar was appointed as CVO, HPCL on Feburary 04, 2015 but failed to take over the charge. Consequent upon cancellation of her appointment by ACC she has been debarred from central deputation which also includes debarment from any foreign training or consultancies abroad during the period of  debarment.

Born in a family deeply involved in India’s Freedom Movement, Anuradha Shankar grew up strongly committed to Gandhian values. Anu has been actively engaged with Ekta Parishad, a grassroots movement for land rights and Jai Jagat, an international movement for peace and non-violence. She is on the board of the Universal Solidarity Movement, which works to develop responsible, ethical citizenship in school children in India. She mentors groups of young adults working on a non-violent economy and harmony between communities. She has been a Focal Point for UNICEF, developed capacity-building programmes for child-friendly policing, and given inputs to UNICEF’s 5-year country plans as well as critical feedback on their programme implementation. She is a decorated senior officer of the Indian Police Service and has leveraged her position to ensure safety and security regimes for the vulnerable, particularly women and children. As the leader of a regulatory organisation, her core competence is critical analysis for ensuring optimum results in the delivery of justice and her primary mandate
