Roger Antoine Duvoisin (August 28, 1900 – June 30, 1980)[1] was a Swiss-born American writer and illustrator best known for children'spicture books. He won the 1948 Caldecott Medal for picture books[2] and in 1968 he was a highly commended runner-up for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award for children's illustrators.[3]
Life
Duvoisin was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1900. He learned to draw early having been encouraged by his father, who was an architect, and his godmother, a well-known painter of enamels.[4] He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The collection contains correspondence, awards, Christmas cards (some with original illustrations), and material for twelve books illustrated by Duvoisin and published between 1949 and 1960. The titles are arranged alphabetically; material within each title is arranged in the probable order in which it was created.
The correspondence includes letters from Duvoisin to the de Grummond Collection, 1966 to 1979, in which he comments on the value of original materials, the color separation process, the fictional character Petunia, French children's literature, and writing for children.
The awards material includes a brochure about the Silver Medallion from the University of Southern Mississippi and a citation of merit from the Society of Illustrators.

The collection contains production material for 86 titles published between 1932-1979. It includes both manuscript and illustrative material, with an emphasis on the latter. The collection includes typescripts and proofs, illustrations done in a variety of media, many with separations, studies, sketches, separations, layouts, notes, dummies, proofs, color samples, photostats, and paste-ups. There is also a small amount of correspondence, some miscellaneous art work, art work done for the 'New Yorker' magazine, and an illustration done by children and sent to Duvoisin.
