(b. George Curtis 'G.C.' Cameron, 21st September 1945, Jackson, Mississippi, U.S.A.)
George Curtis Cameron was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1945, and has been a favourite on the Modern Soul circuit spanning the last 50 years or so.
His parents, along with nine siblings, relocated to Detroit in 1955.
George served in Vietnam as a marine during the Sixties, and was demobbed during 1967.
During that period he married Gwen Gordy, Harvey Fuqua's ex-wife.
That year he joined the ranks of the The Spinners as the group's lead singer, replacing Edgar 'Chico' Edwards, following an audition attended by Marvin Gaye.
G.C. sang on the Stevie Wonder penned 1970 hit, 'It's A Shame', along with 'We'll Have It Made', a year before The Spinners left the Motown imprint, and G.C. remained at the label.
After leaving Motown he toured as an independent artist.
One feature of his vocal styling was his ability to mimic other Soul singers from that era.
He could reproduce the sounds of Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield and The Isley Brothers.
