''David Constantine Brooks''' (born November 30, 1981), better known by his stage name '''Mavado''', is a Jamaican musician, actor, DJ and music producer.

Brooks was raised in an area known as "Cuban", a micro ghetto within the heart of Kingston, Jamaica's Cassava Piece community. His grandmother gave him his first musical experience at a young age, bringing him to church to sing. He also cites the music of Bounty Killer as an early influence.

The boyhood idol became his mentor when at the age of 15, Bounty took him under his wing to show him the ropes of the music industry. He decided to name himself "Mavado" after the Swiss watch company Movado, altering the spelling.

His debut single, "Real McKoy" on the Anger Management riddim in 2004, provided him instant success.He further established himself with the follow-up record “Weh Dem a Do”, on the Red Bull & Guinness riddim. Jamaican singer and DJ musician Mavado is best known for his dancehall and reggae music. Mavado (real name David Constantine Brooks) was born on 30 November, 1980, in Kingston, Jamaica, and takes his stage name after the Swiss watch company Movado, ultimately altering the spelling. Mentored by personal idol, Bounty Killer, Mavado eventually caught the eye of dancehall music business mogul Julian Jones-Griffith, who would eventually become his manager. His first single (and signature track), "Real McKoy", was released in 2005 before his debut album, Gangsta for Life: The Symphony of David Brooks, saw the light of day in 2007 via VP Records. The deejay, songwriter, and singer is also known as Gully Gaad. He was influenced by the music of Bounty Killer, and when he was 15, Bounty Killer became his mentor, introducing him to the workings of the music industry and connecting him to his manager, Julian Jones-Griffith, the sancehall business legend. Griffith went on to manage Mavado’s career as well.

Brooks took his stage name of “Mavado” from the Swiss watch company Movado. His manager changed the spelling of the artist’s name. His first single was entitled “Real McKoy,” which was released in 2004. After breaking through with this first single, he followed up with “Wish Dem a Do,” recorded on the Red Bull & Guinness riddim.
