Dexter in a nutshell for fandom outsiders.
Dexter Morgan is a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police who also happens to be a serial killer. He follows a code which only allows him to kill “bad people” (mostly other serial killers, rapists and murderers). He has skipped the code under certain circumstances, mainly for his own survival, but most of his victims fit it perfectly. He usually investigates his victims before killing them, looking for evidence to confirm they are actually killers.
Dexter is actually widowed and single. He has a four-year old son, Harrison, and is the stepfather of two more children, although he only lives with his own son. His sister, Deb, is the person apart from his son whom he cares the most about.
As many serial killers, he is methodic and has his rituals. He wraps his victims in plastic and, if possible, covers the whole murder room in it so he doesn’t leave forensic evidence. Dexter likes to put pictures of his victims’ own victims across the room and

Dexter is an American crime drama television series that aired on Showtime from October 1, 2006, to September 22, 2013. Set in Miami, the series centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a forensic technician specializing in blood spatter analysis for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department, who leads a secret parallel life as a vigilante serial killer, hunting down murderers who have not been adequately punished by the justice system due to corruption or legal technicalities. The show's first season was derived from the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter (2004), the first in a series of novels by Jeff Lindsay. It was adapted for television by James Manos Jr., who wrote the first episode.
The series enjoyed mostly positive reviews throughout its run. The first four seasons were widely praised, but reception dropped considerably as the series progressed. The show has received myriad awards, including two Golden Globes won by Hall and John Lithgow for their roles as Dexter Morgan and Arthur Mitchell,
