Bereket Simon.

I never had the pleasure or the misfortune of meeting Ato Bereket. On the other hand I feel as if I have known him all my life. We became very close after the 2005 general elections. When I first heard him speak, what surprised me most was his soft feminine voice that clashed with the impression of a fierce guerilla fighter I have envisioned. If you remember he was the one tasked by the petty tyrant to deal with the ‘opposition’ regarding the election. So I had a good opportunity to see him operate. He failed miserably. It was painful to watch.

Dr. Berhanu and Kinijit run a circle around him and his criminal grouping and made them the laughing stock of the world. They couldn’t even steal an election that was run by their own cadres. To say they were humiliated is making the tragedy bearable. Ever since then I have been fixated with Ato Bereket. He has never failed to motivate me to double my effort in my work to sabotage his effort to bring misery to my homeland. My quarrel with him is not personal but I always felt I spoke for those his misguided polic

Bereket Simon released from Prison

Bereket Simon, Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), much of the organization structure of the now defunct organization was used for the formation of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party, the official is reportedly released from Prison.

He was charged with alleged corruption and arrested in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Among the charges he faced was embezzlement of over 2 billion birr of EFFORT – which was a regional government business conglomerate.  He was the head of the organization.

He was sentenced to six years and was in jail about four years ago. 

Bereket was one of the close allies of the late Meles Zenawi and the most feared politician at the time.

Ethiopian politician

Bereket Simon (Tigrinya: በረከት ስምኦን; born 1960s) is an Ethiopian politician who had served as Minister of Communication Affairs from its establishment in 1995 to 2012. He was affiliated to the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), of which he was a founding member.[2][3][4] He underwent medical treatment in Saudi Arabia financed by the billionaire Mohammed Alamudin.[5][6] He was a close friend of former prime minister Meles Zenawi since their University days.[7] He was widely considered as Meles Zenawi's right-hand man.[8]

Personal life

Bereket was born in Dabat to an Eritrean family.[9] As he was in high school in 1978,[9] he was likely born in the 1960s.

Legal issues

On 23 January 2019, Bereket was arrested by the Amhara Region government in relation to corruption along with Tadesse Kassa, a civil servant.[10] On 8 May 2020, Bereket was convicted of corruption and sentenced to six years of pri
