Former Bugsy Malone child actor and Royal Ballet School alumni Vivienne Mckone shone brightly and briefly on this, her sole major label recording. It’s confident, assured and richly evocative of the back-to-basics nature of early-90s soul.

Signed to Pete Tong’s London subsidiary ffrr amongst a host of Brit talent, Mckone’s album was overseen by veteran US producer Stewart Levine, who had relocated to the UK in the wake of his enormous success working with Simply Red.

With a team that included British jazz star Ronny Jordan, ABC sideman Dave Clayton and Simply Red guitarist and future Stone Roses member Aziz Ibrahim, they created warm, affecting settings for Mckone’s simplistic, instantly beguiling melodies and piano playing.

Lead single, Sing, is classic soul updated with an infectious “ooh-ee-ooh” refrain – it reached 47 on the singles chart in the summer of 1992. With its prominent acoustic guitar, it’s not a million miles removed from The Isley Brothers’ Harvest for the Worl

Began dancing at the age of two and worked as a child in television. She attended a local dancing school, training in American tap and jazz then went on to attend the Royal Ballet School. She appeared as a child as 'Velma', the solo dancer, in Alan Parker's Bugsy Malone, and inspired by the music of Paul Williams and the Soul and Pop Music of the 70's began a musical theatre involvement whilst performing as a solo artist and continuing acting and television work.

She has appeared as the receptionist in BBC's Casualty, and her first album entitled Vivienne Mckone was produced by American producer Stuart Levine (Crusaders, Randy Crawford, Simply Red). Her next album, entitled Souled Live, was recorded live in London in 1997. Her music, a pop-soul mix has been recognized and given a place on such albums such as the Jazz FM album Spririt of the Street - The Very Best of Inner City Cool alongside artists such as The Brand New Heavies, D'Angelo and Jamiroquoi.

She has also been approached to be the solo support act for American jazz artist Al Jarreau in May 2

Vivienne Mckone's vocal stylings are not dis-similar to that of an artist she admires, Brenda Russell.

In fact, Vivienne states that Brenda's 1979 debut album was a real influence on her musical stylings.

Vivienne is an accomplished singer, songwriter and an instrumentalist.

Additionally, Vivienne is an actress and has a degree in Biology, which she achieved at Goldsmith's College in London.

In 1976, she was part of the original child cast of the movie 'Bugsy Malone'.

Vivienne has been playing the piano since the age of nine and owned her own four track home studio since the age of sixteen.

Her first venture into the soul music market came with the release of her self titled album in 1992.

The accompanying live band was put together by U.K. jazz artist Ronny Jordan.

That album contained the track 'Sing', which has been utilised on many a holiday programme on U.K. television.

Amongst some of her acting appearances, she played a receptionist on BBC television's 'Casualty' hospital programme.
