Already one of Turkey's most popular female singers and actors, Bülent Ersoy gained international notoriety in 1981 when she travelled to Great Britain for a sex change operation, a procedure unavailable in her native country. In a further defiance of convention, Ersoy kept the traditionally male name of "Bülent," rather than exchanging it for a female one, as is usual with male-to-female transgender people.
Returning to Turkey, Bülent found herself in opposition to the extremely homophobic and transphobic regime of Kenan Evren. In a crackdown on "social deviance," Ersoy's public performances were banned along with those of other transsexual and transgendered people. This move actually went against a centuries-old tradition of tolerance for the transgendered in the Turkish society, dating back to the days when the Ottoman sultans kept young male concubines, or celtikci, who were often dressed as women. Performances by male entertainers in drag are also a time-honored and cherished tradition in Turkish culture.

Hatice Yıldız Levent, better known by her stage name Muazzez Ersoy, (born 9 August 1958) is a Turkishclassical music singer. In 1998, with the suggestion of the 33rd government of Turkey's Ministry of Culture, she was chosen as a State Artist.[1][2] Due to singing nostalgic songs, she is also known with the title "Nostalgia Queen" inside Turkey.[3][4] In 2006, she was chosen as a goodwill ambassador for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.[5][6][7]

MAHMUT BURAK ERSOY
Mahmut Burak Ersoy was born in Antalya, Türkiye on 25 December 1979.
He studied Political Science and Public Administration at Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He obtained European Studies Master’s Degree from Middle East Technical University in 2006. He worked as Research Assistant at EU 7thFramework projects in the same university.
He joined Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2004 and served as Attache and Third Secretary at the Bilateral Economic Affairs and Asia-Pacific & Africa Departments.
He was posted as Third Secretary and Second Secretary consecutively at the Turkish Embassies in Dhaka and Lisbon between 2007 and 2012.
He then returned to Ankara and worked as Acting Head of Department at the Deputy Directorate General for NATO and Euro-Atlantic Security and Defence Affairs.
He served as Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Türkiye at NATO between 2014 and 2018. He was then posted to Turkish Embassy in Nairobi between 2018 and 2020.
